Charlton Athletic close in on Rak-Sakyi return as EFL clubs ramp up business: Transfer window update

The 23-year-old would return to The Valley three years after a loan spell that remains the most productive season of his career. Rak-Sakyi scored 15 goals and registered nine assists for the League One side in 2022/23, winning the Addicks' Player of the Year award in the process.

Rak-Sakyi has one year remaining on his contract and looks set to earn Crystal Palace a transfer fee from a permanent departure this summer. He has been loaned out four times since graduating from the Palace academy.

After his first loan spell with Charlton, he spent a year back with Palace before joining Sheffield United on loan for the 2024/25 season. In South Yorkshire, he scored seven goals and registered two assists in a fairly mediocre loan spell.

Rak-Sakyi spent the first half of the 2025/26 season on loan in Turkey with Rizespor before linking up with Stoke City for the latter stages of the campaign. His spell with the Potters didn't go as planned. He started just eight matches and scored just two goals.

Nathan Jones has publicly stated his admiration for the Ghanaian and now looks set to welcome him to his squad.

Elsewhere in the Championship, Derby County have reportedly made a move to sign Hamza Choudhury from Leicester City. The Bangladesh international is available this summer as Leicester look to reduce their wage bill following their relegation to League One. He has made only substitute appearances for the Foxes so far this season. There is also further speculation about the futures of Stephy Mavididi and Woyo Coulibaly.

Wrexham have reportedly agreed an £8m fee with French side Angers for left-back Jacques Ekomie. This comes after Wrexham spent a reported £5m on Danny Imray for the right-hand side. The Red Dragons are also said to be interested in Ipswich Town attacker Anis Mehmeti, who was linked with Derby County just yesterday.

Sheffield United are reportedly interested in adding Burnley defender Joe Worrall to their ranks before the deadline. Chris Wilder spoke in pre-season about his desire to add more quality to the centre-back position, and whilst the Blades are yet to concede this season, Wilder still clearly feels a need for reinforcements.

Worrall won promotion from the Championship with Nottingham Forest in 2022 and again with Burnley in 2025. As he searches for more game time, he could provide the quality Sheffield United desire.

Bolton Wanderers are close to welcoming two new attacking additions to their squad. The Trotters are reportedly finalising a deal for Canadian winger Jayden Nelson from MLS side Austin FC. The fee is believed to be worth £800,000 plus add-ons after Bolton met Austin's asking price. A player who operates primarily off the left-hand side, Nelson would add some pace and flair to Bolton's attacking options.

Wanderers are also advancing in talks to sign long-term target Max Dean from Belgian club KAA Gent. The 22-year-old, formerly of MK Dons, had reportedly been set to undergo a medical earlier in the window before a disagreement over the fee put a stop to the move. The Liverpool-born striker scored 16 goals in 31 games for MK Dons in the 2023/24 season, earning himself a move to Belgium's top tier.

Completing both deals would represent a significant boost to Bolton's survival ambitions this season.

In League One, Barnsley are closing in on the signing of Connor O'Riordan on loan from Blackburn Rovers. The Irishman spent the first half of last season on loan with fellow South Yorkshire side Doncaster Rovers before returning to Blackburn due to a large-scale injury crisis. It is believed that the loan deal includes a permanent option of around £500,000.

Doncaster Rovers are set to sign midfielder Tommi O'Reilly on loan from Aston Villa. The 22-year-old has had a chaotic summer, with moves to Sheffield Wednesday and then Notts County both collapsing. The dynamic midfielder has finally secured himself a League One move, though, following his impressive spell in League Two with Crewe Alexandra last season.

Sheffield Wednesday have agreed a loan deal with Ipswich Town for striker Ali Al-Hamadi. The Iraqi striker spent last season on loan with Luton Town, though his minutes were severely limited by niggling injury issues. Sheffield Wednesday will be hopeful that his availability is more consistent during the upcoming season.

In League Two, per Pete O'Rourke, Newport County have agreed a loan deal for Fulham midfielder Matt Dibley-Dias. The New Zealander has had loan spells with Northampton Town and Chesterfield over the last two seasons, but injuries have limited his game time to a matter of minutes at both clubs.

The transfer window has just one week left, closing at 11pm on Tuesday the 1st of September. Expect plenty more movement before the deadline.
