Eight penalty shootouts. Six red cards. In the first Saturday fixtures we saw an engaging mix of close encounters and romping victories as the first round of the EFL Cup continues.
Sheffield Wednesday were the only team able to best opposition from the division above. Jamal Lowe scored with a delightful dink on 70 minutes as the Owls dispatched their newly Championship opposition. Everywhere else, the EFL's natural order was just about held.
It was a trip to Goodison Park for me as I travelled to Liverpool to watch Preston host my team, Huddersfield Town. From a Town perspective it was a disappointing afternoon as demons from last season surfaced.
