Millwall host West Ham United at The Den on Saturday lunchtime. It’s the 100th competitive fixture between the two rivals, and after a 14-year absence, this grudge match promises to return with a bang.
History of this rivalry
This rivalry is longstanding. Millwall Rovers were founded in 1885 by tinsmiths at JT Morton’s canned food factory on the Isle of Dogs. Thames Ironworks followed ten years later, formed by a foreman named Dave Taylor after owner Arnold Hills decided a football team would lift his workforce. The two clubs sat under three miles apart, forming the basis for a heated geographical rivalry.
