Watford drop into relegation zone: How is it all going so wrong?

Two hammerings in four days have sent Watford fans into open revolt. It's become clear the problem is not the man in the dugout. It is the broken system that keeps putting new ones there.

Burnley arrived at Vicarage Road on Saturday bottom of the Championship, with one league win to their name in the whole of 2026. The Clarets were 3-0 up inside 25 minutes and the fixture finished 4-0 after Marcus Edwards dealt the final blow late on. By the end, the Rookery were singing “sacked in the morning”, aimed on the surface at Alessio Dionisi, but a jibe towards the ownership more than anything.

Three days later it got worse. Cardiff City, sitting 21st and a point behind Watford, scored four before half-time and won 5-1. It was a fourth straight league defeat, and it dropped the Hornets into the relegation zone. Afterwards Dionisi was angry, he stated the problem was "much bigger" than simply 'problems off the pitch'.
