This time 10 years ago, the Boro were preparing for their return to the Premier League. Aitor Karanka would welcome players such as Victor Valdes, Alvaro Negredo and Martin de Roon to the Riverside in what was an exciting time to be a Boro fan. The top-flight return didn't last long, as Boro were relegated at the first possible opportunity following a 19th-place finish.

A decade after their last promotion, Boro recorded their best league finish since their return to the Championship, finishing 5th on 80 points, ultimately falling short of promotion as they lost to Hull in the play-off final.
