Alex Neil has crafted a Millwall side that look like the team to beat
27.08.26, 16:46
Ex-Millwall boss Neil Harris finally got a taste of his own medicine as his Cambridge United side were defeated by a Jake Cooper goal following a Millwall corner. Fitting, for a man who scored 138 of them himself and remains the club's all-time leading scorer.
Alex Neil's Lions registered their third clean sheet in three games as they overcame the U's by a single goal to nil at The Abbey Stadium.
Millwall managed 83 points last season, the most they've ever recorded in the second tier. They finished third, just a single point behind Ipswich, who had only just been relegated and retained a large part of the squad that was built for the Premier League. Alex Neil had crafted a Millwall side that was able to compete with those shopping in a different pond to the Lions. Millwall's progress over recent seasons is a powerful advertisement for continuity and recruiting in line with a specific strategy.
